Frans Hals Museum
In Haarlem starts the Golden Age! Master portraitist Frans Hals settled here, as well as other celebrities such as Jan Steen and Jacob van Ruisdael. Their masterpieces, and that of many other Haarlem painters can be admired in this museum.
The Frans Hals Museum has the largest collection of paintings by Frans Hals in the world. The total collection of old paintings by Frans Hals Museum is about 800. A good portion of that can be seen permanently. The rest is lent, restored, or stays in depots.
Frans Hals, the famous painter from Haarlem in the Golden Age, was specialized in portraits. He painted in a very accurate and vivid style. The Frans Hals Museum possesses five large group portraits of shooters.
